Fire in Schaaren: barn opens in flames - animals saved

at night to today, at around 4:10 a.m., the residents of the Schaaren district became aware of a major fire that developed in a barn on Kotthausener Strasse. The fire certificate was visible over long distances and caused the alarmed fire brigade to increase the alarm level on the way. In addition to the extinguishing trains from Seelscheid and Neunkirchen, fire departments from Lohmar-Breid and Lohmar-Birk were also consulted.

When the emergency services arrived, the barn was already in full fire. The flames threatened to attack adjacent buildings, including a stable with cows. Fortunately, the animals could be led outdoors in time. In order to prevent the fire from spreading further, the firefighters initiated distraction measures from two sides of the building complex.

fire brigade in continuous use

The barn, which is located on Kotthausener Strasse, burned almost completely. Inside there were two motorhomes that were completely destroyed in the fire. The roof structure and load -bearing parts of the building also fell victim to the flames. Due to the recognizable hazard of the building structure, the fire brigade decided not to carry out an internal attack because the risk of falling was too great. Instead, the emergency services focused on an external attack from several directions, including with the help of a turntable ladder. It took almost an hour for the fire to be under control, but again and again there were flaming nests that made additional reversal work necessary.

With a single -tear hook, the remaining roof tiles were cleared from the turntable ladder to prevent falling on the street. The Hygiene unit of the Lohmar fire brigade was also in use and provided cleaning stations and replacement clothing for contaminated operational clothing. These operational work was made more difficult by light, persistent rain.
