New bike path between Thaya and Jarolden: clean, safe and modern!
Thaya, Österreich - The market town of Thaya has successfully completed the expansion of an unpaved economic route to the bicycle road between Jarolden and Thaya/Waidhofen on the Thaya. This measure, which was initiated with the support of the state of Lower Austria's cycle path funding, aims to improve the quality of the bicycle traffic facilities. According to OTS now the newly designed path corresponds to the necessary standards.
The new bicycle road has a width of three meters, supplemented by banquets of up to 0.5 meters on both sides. The section is about 600 meters long and begins at the intersection with the state road L 8124, courses west to the Lower Austrian main cycling route "Thayarunde". The construction work was carried out by the Leithäusl company and the total cost of the project was around 130,000 euros, with 70 percent being borne by the state of Lower Austria and 30 percent by the Thaya market town.
official handover
The official handover of the new bicycle road took place in the presence of Gottfried Waldhäusl, Vice Mayor Franz Strohmer and Lower Austria Road construction director DI Josef Decker. This event marked an important step for promoting cycling in the region.
The return for the local transport infrastructure is also evident in the guidelines that apply in the bicycle road. According to § 67 StVO 1960, besides bicycle traffic, only driving and departures are permitted here. An exception applies to agricultural vehicles that can also drive through this bicycle road. In addition, a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h was determined to ensure the safety of cyclists and to avoid their risk and disability.
background for cycling promotion
The expansion of this bicycle road is also in the context of municipal cycling promotion, as explained in the report on the project "Kora: Elimination of implementation of implementation in municipal bicycle traffic planning". The project pursues the goal of optimizing processes of cycling promotion and cycling infrastructure in municipalities. Comprehensive recommendations have been developed, but they are not the same for all municipal structures. These differentiated approaches are also important for the further development of the cycle path infrastructure, since they enable an adaptation to specific local conditions. Detailed results and individual recommendations for action can be found in Chapter 5 of the report, and a newly developed online tool should help the municipalities to make their cycling promotion better, such as the difu documented.
Overall, the project in Thaya shows how cycling infrastructure can be improved through joint efforts and funding in order to offer a growing number of cyclists safe and efficient ways.
