Heinrich Steiner rocks the Ötscher trail: a hero of the mountains
In an impressive demonstration of perseverance and performance, 600 athletes from 16 countries came together at this year's Ötscher Trail. The event, which also celebrated the 25th anniversary, marked the comeback of the trail and was held for three days. The participants had the opportunity to measure themselves in different disciplines, with the toughest runners being rewarded in the "Hero" classification.
An athlete who faced special challenges was the Ybbser Heinrich Steiner. He was not afraid of the enormous distance of 78 kilometers and 5,400 meters of altitude, which had to be overcome to win the title "Hero". Steiner described the route that led him to the summit cross twice, and the further demanding stages through the picturesque landscape around the Ötscher.
event process
The competition started on Friday with the Vertical Race, where the participants climbed the ski slope up to the summit cross. The central competition of the event was waiting for the athletes the following Saturday: the 52-kilometer long marathon trail, which, however, had a changed route due to unexpected storm conditions. With the Skyrace, which concluded on Sunday, the challenge was perfectly rounded off.
Heinrich Steiner achieved a remarkable time of 9 hours and 26 minutes, while he completed all three competitions. This not only secured him the eighth overall, but also the superior victory in his age group. "I learned how to get to the summit cross the fastest, and the most I felt most comfortable during the marathon, where I also won the age rating," emphasized the Ybbser. The joy of the successful event is obvious, and the anticipation for the next edition of the Ötscher trail, which will take place in August 2025, is great.
The enthusiasm for the Ötscher Trail shows how such challenging events bring people from all over the world together and at the same time focus on the beauty of nature and sporting achievements.
