Funding association is committed to preserving the Melk Abbey Library

m It was founded by the "Ex Litteris Immortalitas" support association in order to support and maintain the impressive monastery library in Melk. Since the foundation of the Benedictines in Melk in 1089, the monastery plays a central role in the region. It is not only seen by the monks as a faith, but also as a cultural heritage that needs to be preserved.

The Abbey Library is one of the most important libraries worldwide. With a collection of around 130,000 volumes, it is not only a valuable knowledge of knowledge, but also attracts numerous international visitors. UNESCO has even given the Abbey Library the status of a world heritage, which is still underlining its importance.

renovation work and restoration phases

Over the past 40 years, continuous renovations have pursued the goal of preserving the architectural masteriness of the monastery complex. One restoration phase after the other is initiated to keep the buildings in the best condition. The Abbey Library is currently the focus of these efforts. This phase not only ensures that the library remains a place of knowledge, but also that it is accessible to future generations.

The board of the association consists of committed members such as Anton Eder, Alexander Hauer, Father Ludwig Wenzl, Abbot Georg Wilfinger, President Erwin Hateseder and Birgit Kühnl. Together they work to win supporters and collect donations to finance the restoration work. Thanks to their commitment and support of sponsors, it will be possible to preserve the legacy of the abbey library for posterity.

The importance of the abbey library cannot be assessed high enough. It stands for a rich cultural heritage and contributes to the education and general education not only in the region, but also to the international community. The work of the association is therefore of crucial importance to protect this inheritance and to make the library accessible to the coming generations.
