Stiftskapellmeister: Pejrimovsky inspires with opera performances!
Stift Lilienfeld, Österreich - A significant change has taken place in the Cistercian Stift Lilienfeld: Abbot Pius Maurer has appointed Florian Pejrimovsky as the new Abbey chapel master. This renowned bass baritone not only took over the management of the abbey choir, but is also active as Vice President of the Lilienfeld summer academy. He also heads the opera in the crypt of St. Peter in Vienna and works in the academic world as a high school professor and music school teacher. According to the church newspaper "Church Bunt", the first opera performance of the classic "La Bohème" by Giacomo Puccini will take place on January 19.
a controversial commitment
The appointment of Pejrimovsky falls at a time when the Lilienfeld Abbey also focuses on the political level. Abbot Maurer recently distanced himself from the participation of a father in an election event of the FPÖ, as kath.net . At this event, the priest had publicly promoted the FPÖ and described it as the only party that was for life protection. Abbot Maurer made it clear that this was an unauthorized private opinion and emphasized: "The church generally does not give a election recommendation for any party." This statement underlines the independence and neutrality of the abbey in political matters.
The Situation is particularly noteworthy, since Abt Maurer has already expressed criticism of FPÖ election posters in the past, which used the sentence "Your will", slightly changed from the Lord's Prayer. He described this use as "tasteless" and warned that the Christian religion, although peaceful, should not be abused as a means of political interests.
