Flood in St. Veit: Thousands on detours due to blocked bridge

in St. Veit, the consequences of the flood in September are still clearly noticeable. The local People's Party has invited Finance State Councilor Ludwig Schleritzko (ÖVP) to personally examine the damage. The “Angerbauer” freight path is particularly affected, where small muries have loosened and considerable damage to the street was caused.

The traffic situation for around 150 households and two farms has deteriorated dramatically. ÖVP councilor Franz Zöchling describes the situation as dangerous: "The residents now have to accept a detour via the bike path." The "Köck" bridge, which has been checked for its resilience for years, was not spared from the water masses and had to be permanently blocked after recent damage.

financing questions and political discussions

During his visit, State Councilor Schleritzko informed about the financing options for the new building of the bridge. In a remarkable remark, Zöchling pointed out that there is currently no "gold in the river bed of the Gölsen", a swipe on statements by SPÖ mayor Christian Fischer on alternative financing options. Vice Mayor Gerhard Jun (SPÖ) expressed concerns about the effectiveness of such visits and warned that no financial contribution to the bridge has yet been established.

"It is nice that State Councilor Schleritzko visits our community, but we need concrete help to build the new Köck Bridge," said Jun. The cost of the new building is estimated that the municipality cannot bear. Jun is particularly disappointed with the previous discussions with the state government, including a meeting with Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner, which did not make any progress.

In order to find a solution as soon as possible, the local council submitted an urgency application for the new building of the bridge. "We urgently appeal to the state government to participate in the costs, as is already the case in other communities," said Jun.
