Safe water supply: Construction of the forest area management in progress!

In a significant step for drinking water supply in Lower Austria, the construction work on the new forest district management is in full swing. Work on the third and last section, which comprises a length of 17 kilometers and ensures the connection from Krems to Zwettl, began in early September 2024. The management, which is made of robust steel and cast pipes and is laid underground, is crucial for the supply of the region during dry periods and in regional failures. The managing director of EVN Wasser, Franz Dinhobl, described this project as the largest project to ensure the drinking water supply in the region. As Meinzirk.at is reported, the pallweise high tank is connected to the Mittelberg high tank.

The first section of the forest district management, which has already been completed and measures 24 kilometers, enables improved water supply in the municipality of Zwettl and in the municipality of Rastfeld. This section extends from pallweight to the existing water infrastructure at Zwettl. EVN board spokesman Stefan Szyszkowitz emphasizes that this project will not only improve the water supply of direct residents, but is also important for numerous other municipalities along the route. The overall investment for the entire project, which is to be completed by autumn 2025, amounts to around 50 million euros. After completion, the new line will be able to supply up to 120,000 inhabitants in the Waldviertel with fresh drinking water, such as Evn.at

This versatile approach to improve the water supply infrastructure in the region is considered significant progress by local mayors. They emphasize how important the expansion of the infrastructure is to ensure the water supply for the population in the long term. The overall project not only shows the need for sustainable solutions in water management, but also sets standards for future developments in the region.
