New parking regulations in the old town: Flexible parking from 2025

d ie city of Krems has big plans to combat the lack of parking space in the city center. From January 1, 2025, the previous fixed parking lot assignments will be lifted in three urban parking garages. This measure was unanimously decided by the local council and has the goal of making more visitor parking spaces available.

There are currently many parking spaces in the parking garages on Kasernstrasse (130 seats), ring road (168 seats) and railway line (100 places) that are only awarded to annual ticket holders. Traffic city councilor Alexandra Ambrosch (SPÖ) draws attention to the fact that these valuable places are often empty at the weekend. "We can create parking space for people who want to shop," she explains. The so -called "Flexipark system" should ensure that from 2025 all places in the parking garages are accessible to all visitors and this at the prices of the green zone: 50 cents per hour and 4 euros for a day ticket.

technical improvements in sight

The switch to the new parking system is facilitated by modern electronic entry and exit systems. In addition, an electronic parking guidance system is planned to help drivers find a free parking space faster. The planned renovation of the parking garage on the ring road, which has been in poor condition for a long time, is also particularly important

In the course of the discussion about the new system, there were also voices from the ranks of the ÖVP. City councilor Eva-Maria Hochstöger was committed to introducing residents' parking zones. "The Kremsers also have an important need for parking. As an old town resident, you think very carefully about when you drive away with your car," she emphasizes. However, your application did not find the necessary approval, while an additional application by FPÖ councilor Susanne Roskranz, more intensively dealing with the topic, met with less resistance.

The focus of the measures is to improve the parking situation in the city center and thus make the city's purchase and visit to the city more pleasant for people. This could turn out as a step in the right direction, especially if the technical improvements can be implemented quickly.
