Krem's dream of building the clinic: Why hope fades
In the city of Krems, there are efforts to fix the break between hope and reality in the healthcare system. Originally there were large plans regarding the new university clinic, especially after the Mitterweg secondary school was demolished, which offered valuable space for future developments. Since this demolition in 2013, however, many signs have been disappointed that Krems has fallen behind in the clinic expansion compared to other Lower Austrian cities.
The decision at that time to sell the large area of the former school area to the country was associated with high expectations. One hoped for a new building of the clinic or at least a comprehensive renovation to optimally use the existing place. But while several new hospitals were put into operation in other cities, Krems remained almost unchanged, and the dream of a new building was increasingly fading.
Current developments
Available is the view of the new pathology, which has now been opened, as well as the planned expansion of radiation therapy. However, many Kremsers have a feeling of sadness because they have the unused possibilities of the extended structural measures in mind. Despite tempting possibilities that the area offers, the new building of the Krems Clinic remains an unfulfilled dream that will probably not be realized in the coming decades.
The present state leads to intensive discussions about future health care perspectives. An investment of 7 million euros in the new pathology shows that you invest in the facility, even if the large infrastructural changes are long in coming. The city and the country are now responsible for lifting health care in Krems to an appropriate level and meeting the needs of the population.
Further details on this topic and a possible new building discussion are in an article www.noen.at read. Those responsible must now decide what the next steps should look like to really achieve the desired progress.
