Herbarium of feelings: Krems is looking for her pressed plants!

In the Landesgalerie Lower Austria in Krems, an exciting collection campaign is launched in order to compile a variety of pressed plants for the artist's exhibition project Regula Dettwiler . The idea behind this action is that not only the plants themselves, but also the stories and emotions associated with them are part of the exhibition.

The gallery invites the population to donate plants, but there is a special condition: each plant should have personal meaning for the donors. This can be initiated by a simple key question: "Why was exactly this plant kept?" At a time when memories are often transient, the "Herbarium of feelings" offers a charming way to bring personal stories into art.

Community participation and workshops

The collection campaign is aimed at everyone who wants to participate in this artistic project. From November 9th to December 7th, pressed plants can be handed in at the Arthothek Lower Austria, located at Steiner Landstraße 3 on the 2nd floor. The opening times are Thursday to Sunday from 12 noon to 5 p.m., so many have the opportunity to bring their plants past.

interested parties who not only want to donate their plants, but also want to press properly, can take part in a workshop with Regula Dettwiler. These workshops take place on November 15 and 30 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and offer a great opportunity to learn craft the plant pressing. Here the participants learn how to treat the botanical beauties correctly so that they can preserve their stories.

The artistic director of the Landesgalerie, Gerda Ridler , is looking forward to the variety of plants and the associated stories that will bring people to the gallery. "Flowers accompany us in everyday life, the senses speak, are transmitted by messages or carriers of individual memories," she explains. This not only becomes an artistic, but also an emotional processing of joint experiences in the region.

After the exhibition, from May 2025, there is the possibility to pick up the donated plants. Dettwiler plans to present the collected plants on paper sheets, which reinforces the connection between the nature and emotions. The idea of integrating private emotions and fleeting moments into art is not only innovative, but also invites people to share their very individual stories and thus become part of the work of art.
