New master plan for Korneuburg: Safe walking through the city
The city of Korneuburg plans to significantly improve the freedom of movement of its citizens on the streets. A new concept called “Walking” includes extensive measures to increase safety and comfort for pedestrians. This project was developed in collaboration with komobile GmbH and is designed to create a pedestrian-friendly environment.
The master plan is an important step in applying for funding as part of the “klimaaktiv mobil – Active Mobility” project. Several city councilors, including Mayor Christian Gepp, City Councilor Alfred Zimmermann and City Councilor Elisabeth Kerschbaum, were present at a presentation of the plan. The city community is actively committed to designing public spaces so that citizens can move around safely and comfortably on foot.
Extensive measures planned
The planned measures in the master plan include, among other things, a redesign of pedestrian zones that are intended to create clear and safe paths. The aim is to motivate more people to leave their cars behind and walk to school, work or the city instead. Walking should be made more attractive through safer crossing options on busy roads and the creation of more pedestrian zones.
Another focus of the plan is improving accessibility to public transportation. The city wants to increase pedestrian traffic in order to reduce the number of drivers and thus make a positive contribution to environmental protection.
The detailed planning shows that Korneuburg is not only trying to respond to the city's current needs, but is also taking a pioneering step towards sustainable mobility. By embracing more active transportation, the city will promote a more vibrant and healthy community.
The “Walking” project was presented at an official event at which the city councilors involved emphasized the importance of pedestrian-friendly urban design. “It is time we focus on people who walk and provide them with appropriate infrastructure,” said one of the city councilors.
With the new master plan, Korneuburg is taking a future-oriented path that takes both social and ecological aspects into account, thereby opening the door to a better living environment for its citizens.
