Burglar duo caught in Marchegg: 13 burglaries solved!

In Marchegg, Gänserndorf district, a 24-year-old man from Slovakia was arrested late on Wednesday evening for suspected burglary of several garden sheds and a school. The incident occurred after a resident alerted the police. At around 10:45 p.m., a patrol from the Lassee police station went to the scene and was able to stop the suspect, who was riding a mountain bike.

The officers found tools and work gloves in the person's backpack. They also discovered a shopping bag containing a crowbar and compressed copper downpipes near the crime scene. The investigation revealed that several break-ins and thefts had taken place in the area in the days before the arrest. The estimated amount of damage caused by the break-ins is around 10,000 euros.

Solving crimes and further investigations

The investigations, which were carried out between October 20th and 22nd, 2025, led to the solving of a total of 13 burglaries, including four attempted crimes. The 24-year-old was identified by investigators as the main suspect and was taken to the Korneuburg prison on the orders of the Korneuburg public prosecutor.

Another suspect has also been identified but is on the run. During the time of the crime, the duo is said to have had, among other things, a blackjack and a hunting knife with them. The police are also continuing their investigation into the whereabouts of the fleeing accomplice and possible other crime scenes.

The previous series of looting has put the community on alert and highlights the need to raise security awareness. Local authorities are working to gather more information and catch the fugitive perpetrator.
