Let's save the golden horn: Citizens' initiative for Brač's best -known beach

The Golden Horn, known as one of the most spectacular beaches on the Croatian Adriatic coast, has recently experienced a significant transformation that concerns many residents of the nearby BOL location. The beach, which is characterized by its characteristic crescent -shaped expansion, was severely impaired in September by violent weather conditions and now shows a changed form. These changes arouse concern about the future of the landmark of Croatia.

As can be seen from various studies, there are massive storms and the bora, which are significantly influenced by climate change, are responsible as the main cause of these drastic changes. Ivica Jakšić, a resident and committed activist, emphasizes that other factors such as mass tourism and shipping also have a significant impact on the appearance of the golden horn. "Climate change plays an important role. But many studies show that shipping and anchoring in the area have equally long -term consequences," said Jakšić in an interview with dnevnik.hr.

Initiative for the protection of the golden horn

The petition is based on the knowledge of the Counter Split-Dalmatia, which has documented the dangers that shipping and anchoring near the golden horn have been. The residents have prompted these findings to become active and raise their voice in order to sensitize the authorities and to request appropriate measures to protect the beach.

The events around the golden horn emphasize the challenges that many coastal regions have to cope with in the face of climate change and the tourism industry. A call to the collection of signatures is a first step to fight together for more sustainable management of natural resources and landscapes and at the same time to preserve the cultural identity of the region. It remains to be seen whether the petition will be heard and what measures are finally taken.
