Massive explosion in wood -heating power plant: fire brigade in action

in Horn-Bad Meinberg, North Rhine-Westphalia, there was a dramatic incident in a wood-heating plant on the morning of November 20, 2024. At 7.59 a.m. the fire brigade was alerted with the keyword "Feuer 2 - Unclear Rauch Development". When they arrived, the hall gates had already been torn out and a visibly massive smoke development could be seen.

The random employees and employees from the surrounding companies reported on a huge explosion and an impressive fireball, which became visible in the event. Fortunately, there were no more people in the hall at this time, which defused the situation. In the warehouse of the heating power plant, wood dust and wood waste are processed, which are converted into general cargo using an industrial hill.

emergency services encounter major challenges

The strong smoke developments focused on the dust assembly point, which caused the fire brigade to increase the alarm level on "Feuer 3 - explosion in industrial operation". As a result, more respiratory protection wearers moved to the site. First of all, it was important to explore the adjacent silos where embers may hide, but the search was difficult.

The firefighters sometimes had to expose the snails to the silos in order to be able to target the flames and embers. This labor -intensive approach required special breathing protection because the health of the emergency services had a top priority. Despite the challenges, the firefighters worked effectively to combat the fire in dust acceptance and on the hacker.

fire under control

Around noon, the first emergency services have already been released, while the situation was gradually being under control. At 1:00 p.m., the emergency services finally reported "fire". The fire brigade then presented the site of both the police and the operator of the wood -fired power plant, which set up a security guard. The fire brigade and the residents have alert this incident and once again shows how important immediate reactions are on such critical situations. The rapid use of the fire brigade could possibly prevent worse things. Further information on the exact causes of the explosion is currently not available, but it is certain that an extensive investigation will follow.

The Horn-Bad Meinberg volunteer fire brigade has proven through its rapid use that it is well prepared in emergency situations. Information about the details of the incident can be found on www.feuerwehr-ub.de
