Kissing for the Lindenhof: designing Eggenburg's future in dialogue
In a surprising turn of the events, the Eggenburg architect Elisabeth Schuh and the Mayor Georg Gilli set their differences aside. At the kick-off event on the development concept for the Lindenhof in Eggenburg, a public hug showed that both want to work for this important project. This event, which not only wanted to address investors, but also wanted to include the citizens, was a complete success - the Lindenhofsaal was filled to the last place.
Schuh explained the background of the project in front of the citizens present and presented the team members, in particular the “Pro Eggenburg” association, which is led by the committed citizens Andreas Zeugswetter and Werner Oppitz. The aim is to develop the four hectare area for a wide range of uses, including educational offers, a nursing home or social -oriented institutions. "Eggenburg should remain worth living," emphasized Schuh. There are already interests of institutions, such as the Vienna Heilstätstättenschule, which are considering their use.
important steps and participation of the citizens
Next on November 16, a dialogue event will be on the program, which is open to everyone interested. From 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., citizens have the opportunity to contribute their ideas for the development of the area. The mediator Wilfried Pistecky, known for his work on the inner Mariahilferstraße in Vienna, emphasizes that it is primarily about finding out what needs the Eggenburger have.
parallel to citizen participation, Schuh also plans a transparent disclosure of project finances. So far, she has received a total of 60,000 euros from the area recycling funding for planning and 50,000 euros for inventory examinations. In order to realize the project, Schuh hopes to convince the city of Vienna to sell the area to the municipality of Eggenburg. The intended purchase price is 4 to 4.5 million euros, whereby the city of Eggenburg should use the area for public purposes.
Time is urged because the city of Vienna originally planned to complete the sale by the end of the year. Thanks to the interest of several potential investors, Schuh was able to extend the time window. The city of Vienna has now granted Eggenburg the deadline until the end of 2024, whereby the municipality has to take over the operating costs of around 120,000 euros.
The long-term goal of setting the groundbreaking ceremony in 2027 at the 750th anniversary celebration of Eggenburg does not seem to be unrealistic. If a symbolic gesture between the shoe and the Gilli is even possible, the project could be on the right track. This positive signal has nourished hope that the collaboration between the actors in Eggenburg will be trouble enough to realize a future -proof development in the region.
