Three Israeli hostages released after a dispute over gaza custody rest
CNN - Three Israeli hostages were freed from the Gaza Strip as part of a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas after a dispute threatened the agreement again this week.
The release of the hostages
The American-Israeli Sagui Dekel -chen, the Russian-Israeli Alexandre Troufanov and the Argentine-Israeli Iair Horn were released this morning at around 10 a.m. (3 a.m. et) in Khan Younis, in the south of the Gaza Strip. This was the sixth exchange as part of the ceasefire. The hostages were seen accompanied by armed fighters who led them onto a stage where the liberated crowded on the assembled crowd.
health of the hostages improved
The men seemed to be in a better state of health than the three hostages that were released in the previous week. This led to violent criticism of Israeli officials. Pockets were presented with souvenirs to the released hostages. Horn was seen with small hourglasses while Troufanov had some difficulties when climbing down the stairs.
reactions in Israel and Palestine
In Tel Aviv's hostage pitch, the atmosphere was expectant and calm when people with posters followed the release live. In Kibbutz Nir Oz, all three hostages were kidnapped, families gathered to observe the moment of liberation. The Dekel-Schen family was pushing around the television to experience the release live.
Israel has started to relieve hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in exchange. A group of 11 Palestinian prisoners was released in the occupied West Bank, the Palestinian prison company said. According to the Palestinian red crescent, four of the released prisoners had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
future release and negotiations
The Israeli prison authority ordered that the sentence "We will not forget and we will not be forgiven" should be embroidered in addition to a Davidstern on the clothing of the released prisoners. In total, Israel will release 369 Palestinian prisoners; 333 of them were arrested in Gaza on October 7, 2023 after the attack on Israel led by Hamas. This would be the largest number of Palestinian prisoners who have so far been released as part of these exchanges.
fighting and regional effects
Before the hostage was released, many armed fighters gathered in Gaza. They gathered near the house of the former Hamas manager Yahya Sinwar, who was killed by Israel in October. Pictures showed masked fighters with weapons and on a stage with pictures by Sinwar and other militants.
At the beginning of this week, Hamas announced that Hamas had not moved the release because Israel had not complied with his obligations from the ceasefire agreement. Despite the uncertainties about the future of the entire agreement, the negotiations on an extension of the ceasefire, which expires on March 1st, are uncertainHumanitarian crisis and loss figures
During the attack on October 7, Palestinian militant killed more than 1,200 people, while the Israeli attacks on Gaza have so far cost over 48,000 people, as the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza reported. The conflict has triggered a humanitarian disaster for the surviving residents of the Gaza Strip and left the area in ruins.
This war has also affected the further region and Israel in conflicts with the important Hamas supporter Iran, as well as with Tehran's proxies such as the Hezbollah in Lebanon and the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
