Essential man: human facets in the Hollabrunner gallery
Essential man: human facets in the Hollabrunner gallery
The Gallery Grenzart in Sparkassegasse again raises people on the subject, but this time in a different perspective. Ilse Humer and Martin Schmidt present their first joint exhibition entitled "Wesensensensensch". The artist Martin Schmidt commented on the unexpected thematic focus with a joke about chance:
"It just fit." Both artists are longstanding members of the gallery and are now working together to show the audience their diverse works. The exhibition offers a wide range of works of art, including creations made of ceramic, wood, paper and napkins, as well as watercolor, ink and acrylic painting.
insights into the works
The current works by Ilse Humer are strongly influenced by their mother's dementia. This emotional topic is reflected in her works of art, in which she processes photographs of her mother. It is a touching testimony about how the slow loss of memory and helplessness can lead to strong artistic forms of expression in such situations.
Martin Schmidt, on the other hand, focuses on communication and interpersonal relationships. The use of his own face, which he depicted in tone masks, is particularly impressive. As part of this exhibition, there is an interesting comparison of Schmidt’s large work of art with a QR code and humer’s that are a suitable picture, which is a huge barcode. These two works hang directly opposite each other and encourage visitors to think.
Another highlight of the exhibition is the installation "communication roulette", which many visitors already know about the group exhibition 2023 "We have to talk". The installation "Art instead of fighting", which was recently seen in Kellergasse Raschala, also addresses the human and combines the works of the two artists in an impressive way.
The musical accompaniment of the vernissage was provided by the duo "Schlor & Fanta", which presented melancholic songs in Moll. This underlined the deeper, thoughtful atmosphere of the exhibition and presented a suitable accompaniment on the emotional topics of the works of art.
The exhibition "Wesensensensensch" is now open to the audience and will last until November 10, 2024. Interested visitors also have the opportunity to visit the works of art on the days of open studios on October 19 and 20 between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Galerie Grenzart invites you to discover these touching and profound works and to embark on an artistic journey through the human.
