Roseldorf fundraising campaign: 1,920 euros for flood aid

After the devastating storms in August, the “Sonnendach” association is faced with considerable challenges. The damage goes beyond the physical locations, since the usual routine is significantly impaired. "Nothing works, as usual," says the commercial director Sonja Dürnsteiner. The day care center, which has been flooded heavily, is currently nothing more than a place of repairs and drying devices.

At the Roseldorf Kellergassenfest in September, however, a ray of hope became visible. Kathrin Zöchmann, a committed organizer of the flour skull, was pleased with the enormous support of the community. By participating in numerous Roseldorf women and the generous donations from visitors, astonishing 1,920 euros were collected. "I am really proud of everyone who took part in this fundraiser," she said. The entire proceeds go to the "Sonnendach" association to mitigate the effects of the flood.

construction work and alternative quarters

The difficulties of the association are not limited to financial issues. "We have to make the ground in the dormitory," explains Dürnsteiner, which indicates the next major steps. In order to carry out these urgently needed renovation work, an alternative accommodation is being sought for the currently twelve clients. As soon as the country gives the green light, the relocation could begin. The goal is to improve the living conditions for clients and at the same time enable the renovation of the house.

Already after the first wave of the flood, there were concerns about the upcoming storm. Dürnsteiner reported that the clients were well secured by setting up sandbags as protection against further floods. Fortunately, this time the site was spared from a flooding.

The infrastructure within the sun roof has also suffered greatly. The flood fell victim to the telephone system and other technical devices such as printer are no longer functional. Dürnsteiner explains: "The way you are used to it doesn't really work anymore. It starts with the phone." This illustrates how much the flood has burdened the everyday life of employees and clients.

Further support for the association

However, the community is solidarity. In addition to the Roseldorf farmers, the Hollabrunn ÖKB city association also made a valuable contribution and donated 1,000 euros to the association, as well as the Hollabrunner Reitzrum, which also suffered from the storms. Also at a 50th birthday festival by Karl Riepl, 2,000 euros came together by Sissi Pröll's association "Help in his own country" to 5,000 euros.

"The donations are invaluable for us," says Dürnsteiner. This underpins the importance of community and solidarity in difficult times in order to be able to carry out the necessary renovations and security measures. The goal is to be able to better meet future storms with a more robust structure. "Every cent that we put in the renovation is not otherwise certain," emphasizes Dürnsteiner in view of the latest events.

The association also received

reinforcement from the workforce of the Lamb Weston Austria company, which was handed over 1,100 euros in September. Wolfgang Lehner, who campaigned for the fundraising campaign and actively committed to cleaning up, was particularly highlighted by Dürnsteiner.

In order to better prepare for future floods, the association plans to build a garden wall. "It costs a fortune because the area is so large - the money flutters," remarked Dürnsteiner and confirms that the technology of the 26 -year -old elevator must also be shifted to minimize the dangers of water.

Since the budget is now heavily used by the damage caused by the storms, it remains to be seen how quickly the association can recover from the consequences of the disaster. The general hope is that the support of the community and many small donations will soon return daily work in the sun roof.
