Greens demand quick flood aids: uniform replacement rate required
Against the background of the flood disaster in September 2024, the reviews from politics have become loud. In particular, the Greens accuse the state government that the financial support for those affected only flows slowly. Helga Krismer, the state party chairwoman of the Greens, was disappointed with the slow payouts at a press conference. In her opinion, the urgently needed money does not arrive at the victims in time. "We hear regularly from the amounts that are paid out, but the support does not achieve those affected," she said.
The Greens require concrete measures such as advance payments and a uniform compensation rate of 50 percent for all injured parties who were affected by floods this year. In particular, those affected in the Hollabrunn area, which only received 20 percent of their damage, are in the foreground of this demand. Most recently, the Greens had submitted an urgency application in the state parliament meeting, which was, however, rejected. Now plan to make a new application.
criticism of the fast processing
A total of around 4,500 affected people have received financial support, including both individuals and companies. The Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner (ÖVP) announced on Tuesday that the help should now be processed using urgent transfers and aconto payments. Deputy Governor Stephan Pernkopf (ÖVP) informed that the damage commissions and the number of edited workers in the country house were increased in order to be able to process the applications faster.
For the people affected by the floods in Hollabrunn, aconto payments have already been approved. These measures are intended to help improve the care of the victims promptly and to defuse the tense situation. Nevertheless, it remains uncertain whether the government's promises are actually sufficient to address the concerns and needs of those affected.
So far, the families concerned, as well as small and large companies, have hoped for quick compensation. The still existing delays could endanger confidence in state support and raise questions about the future handling of such disasters. For further information and developments in reporting on the flood aids, See the report on noe.orf.at
