Bahn-chaos are coming: Renewers bring train failures and diversions!

Allentsteig, Österreich - The ÖBB have announced that it will have extensive construction work on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn that will have a massive impact on the timetable. From March 24th to June 2nd, numerous timetable changes and train cancellations are expected. From Monday, these changes will come into force, including a replacement rail traffic that will affect the route between Sigmundsherberg and Eggenburg as well as between Sigmundsherberg and Horn. According to OE24 there will also be an information on reduced platform availability at Sigmundsherberg station.

The current renewal work also includes the exchange of switches and the laying of new tracks. Work will also begin in Allensteig and Schwarzenau from the end of March, which represent an important part of the comprehensive modernization between Gmünd and Vienna. The maintenance work between Gmünd and Göpfritz require complete rail replacement traffic from March 29 to April 22nd.

Details on the construction work

The ÖBB infrastructure plans and realizes extensive projects in the rail sector. As on Noe.orf , over three billion euros flow into the rail infrastructure area every year. In addition to the Franz-Josefs-Bahn, there are also other important projects on the agenda, including the expansion of the southern route and the continuation of the station offensive.

Over the entire Austrian route network, which comprises a length of 4,935 km, ÖBB organizes the operating sequence for around 7,000 trains every day. The modernization measures help to ensure the efficiency and safety of the rail network in the long term. At the same time, developments at train stations and stops also improve the comfort for passengers. This can be seen, for example, in the numerous noise protection measures and the construction of Park & Ride systems, which are intended to increase the attractiveness of local public transport.

The comprehensive construction and modernization measures are part of a long-term ÖBB strategy that wants to improve both security and the user-friendliness of the rail infrastructure in the country. It is therefore to be hoped that the short -term inconvenience can be remedied as quickly as possible by the rail replacement traffic and that rail traffic in Lower Austria is strengthened from this work.
