Liebherr specifies the largest deal: 475 electric mountain construction machines for Fortescue

In the latest developments in industry, the Liebherr Group has reached an impressive milestone. The mixed group has concluded a contract for $ 2.8 billion (roundabout 2.5 billion euros) with the Australian raw material group Fortescue. This is the biggest order in the company's 75-year history.

The core of this large-scale deal is the delivery of 475 new mining machines, of which 360 autonomous, battery-operated giant mulic tippers are. This is supplemented by 55 electrical carpers and 60 electroplaner caterpillars, all of which will be used in the FortScue mines in Western Australia.

focus on electromobility

Fortescue has decided to reduce its environmental impacts and decided to step towards electromobility several years ago. The company pursues the goal of operating completely emission -free in its mines by 2030. In order to achieve this ambitious goal, the fleet had to be significantly expanded, which led to the partnership with Liebherr, which was launched in March 2023.

As part of the agreement, Liebherr will make considerable investments to produce the necessary machines. The giant muldipers are manufactured in XL format in Newport, USA, while the excavators are produced in Colmar, France.

was founded in 1949 by Hans Liebherr in Kirchdorf an der Iller, a small community in the Biberach district. However, the company has developed further and is now based in Bulle, Switzerland. However, a large part of the production remains in Germany, especially in the Biberach, Ehingen and Bad Schussenried.

This contract with Fortescue could not only strengthen Liebherr's position in the area of mining machines, but also make a significant contribution to reducing emissions in industry. More information on this comprehensive project is available here at www.schwaebische.de .
