Herbert Klaus: Amstettens music ambassador and cultural award winner 2024

Herbert Klaus is awarded the Culture Prize 2024 in Amstetten. In Klaus, the city might Christian Haberhauer not only recognizes a talented musician, but also a committed person who has campaigned for the local music scene for many years. City Councilor Stefan Jandl emphasizes that Klaus has been an important representative of the Amstettner music scene for almost five decades, both locally and internationally.

Herbert Klaus, born in Amstetten in 1963, joined the music club in 1976 and initially brought the trombone before the tuba became his main instrument. His voluntary work on the board began in 1982, and since 2007 he has been chairman of the music association. This makes him the longest in office chairman in the over 150-year history of brass music in Amstetten. Mayor Haberhauer recognizes Klaus ’commitment, which serves as exemplary for many others.

Klaus played a central role in the initiation of the “House of Music”, and he was also a founding member of the AMV Big Band, which was launched in 1978. He also founded the Mostviertel Birnwerkler in 1990. His international career led him to over 60 appearances in various countries in Europe with the band "Alpine Aspects". This musical synergy of jazz and folk music is of great importance not only for Klaus, but also for the development of modern wind music culture.

His appearances extend over numerous festivals and events such as "Glatt & Traven" or the European Elvis Festival in Bad Nauheim. He demonstrated his talent on television and radio, including in the ORF program "Klingendes Austria". Klaus was also found in international music magazines, including the renowned jazz magazine "Jazz Podium". In addition, he has participated in over ten recordings in the past three decades, including a collaboration with the first general uncertainty (EAV).

In his hometown, Klaus participated in around 1,500 occasions and thus established itself as a fixture in the Amstettner music scene. The awarding of the cultural award will be awarded as part of the traditional Christmas wish concert on December 8th in the Johann-Pölz-Halle. Klaus has already participated in 47 of these concerts, which illustrates his deep connection with this event.
