Digital solution for vacancy survey in Donau-Ybbsfeld completed

In the small regions of Donau-Ybbsfeld and Ostarrichi-Mostland, there was an important progress in recessing vacancies and unused areas. At the end of September 2024, an important project for analyzing these areas was successfully completed. A total of 14 municipalities in the area of Amstetten have teamed up in order to develop a digital solution together that makes the recording of vacancies efficiently. This was made possible by the fund for small regions of the state of Lower Austria.

With the newly developed software from Gisquadrat, the municipalities can now access data on data about empty buildings and unused construction areas. This is great progress, because the handling of the tool is simple and practical. Various filter options can create specific inquiries, which enables the municipalities to get a comprehensive overview of the vacancies. This information is not only important for the identification of unused areas, but also offer valuable data for future planning.

insight into data and numbers

The new system has also developed a map that shows all vacancies and fallow land in the entire region. This visualization is extremely helpful to give the communities a clear overview of unused potential. Hannes Pressl, the President of the Austrian Community Association and Mayor of the Ardagger market town, describes the use of this tool as a big step in the right direction. "Thanks to the precise recording and analysis, we can make sound decisions and continue to minimize soil consumption," he said.

The current learning results are remarkable: the supervision of building land in the region is 17%, which significantly exceeds the average values in the state of Lower Austria. The vacancy rate of 17% (as of September 2024) also shows the relevance of the project for regional planning concerns. Nevertheless, it is important that the municipalities continue to collect the figures on building land overhang and vacancies regularly. This was decided at the last meeting and could be of central relevance for the exchange between the communities.

Michaela Hinterholzer, Mayor of Oed-Oehling and one of the speakers of the small region of Ostarrichi-Mostland, emphasizes the importance of cooperation: "The project has brought us to a new level of cooperation. The digital survey of vacancies helps us to activate unused potential and deal efficiently with our resources."

about the cooperation partners

The communities involved include Ardagger, Blindenmarkt, Ferschnitz, Neustadtl/Donau, St. Georgen/Ybbsfeld, Amstetten, Euratsfeld, Neuhofen/Ybbs and others. The cooperation of the Economic Area Amstetten GmbH The state of Lower Austria are also crucial for the success of the project. This begins in October 2023 and will continue until the end of 2024, including the billing period for the funding received.

Developments in the small regions show how digital progress can help master the challenges in area policy. The daily valid representation of vacancies and fallow land will help to use the potential of the region comprehensively and at the same time to promote responsible use of existing resources.
