News from St. Margarethen: Passion games celebrate impressive anniversary!
St. Margarethen, Österreich - The intensive preparations for the 2026 passion games in St. Margarethen are already in full swing. The focus is on the reinterpretation of the resurrection of Jesus Christ from a female perspective under the title "Mirjam - strong as death is love". Director Manfred Waba, known for his comprehensive experience in stage production, leads the staging, while Pastor Richard Geier has also designed the new framework, which strikes a bridge between Jesusian times and the present. This is underlined by the stronger emphasis on women's figures such as Maria Magdalena, such as Meindezirk.at reported.
about 90 interested parties took part in the Casting in the rectory of St. Margarethen to get one of around 60 speech roles. Pastor Geier was pleased to comment on the large number of participants and the full line -up of around 400 people who will be included in the performance. The passion games have a long tradition that dates back to 1926 when they took place for the first time. This tradition is also preserved in the anniversary year, whereby both old and new elements are integrated into the staging. Director Manfred Faber, who is known for the emotional closeness to the audience, will make scenes such as the crucifixion more experienced, as reported.
The upcoming passion games will take place from May 23 to June 12, 2026 and should address a wide audience, including those who have had hardly any points of contact with traditional performances. With a new text and fresh music, the organizers are aimed at younger spectators and open the room for new perspectives on the proven history. Unique sounds and an impressive performance promise an emotional pleasure that gives up the story about Jesus and his disciples.
