New hope: Linus Schrott strengthens the KAC for the future!

The EC-KAC recently announced its plans for the coming seasons and made several personnel decisions. A significant new addition is Linus Schrott, who is moving from the Malmö Redhawks to the Carinthian capital. Schrott was previously captain of the U18 team and therefore already has experience and leadership qualities.

His connection to the KAC is particularly noteworthy: his father, Harald Schrott, played for the club from 1988 to 1991 and played 105 games. This family connection could be an important motivation for the young player.

Reinforcement by young talents

In addition to Linus Schrott, Oliver Lam is also staying at KAC. The 19-year-old made his professional team debut in February 2023 and has since played 41 games in the win2day ICE Hockey League, scoring four assists. To promote his development, Lam has signed a contract until the end of next season. He has also represented Austria's U18 and U20 national teams at several World Cups.

Another top performer is David Waschnig, who is also staying with the KAC. He signed a long-term contract valid until 2028. Waschnig is a homegrown player who has spent his entire career in the youth department of the EC-KAC and has been active in the fighting team since October 2024. During this time he made 19 appearances and had a playing time of just under 27 minutes.

Strategic decisions

The three players, Linus Schrott, Oliver Lam and David Waschnig, represent an important interface between the U20 team and the fighting team. These considerations are reflected in the KAC's efforts to strengthen its own youth work and to integrate young talents into the professional team in order to remain competitive in the long term. The close cooperation with young players could also help to position the club in the win2day ICE Hockey League in the long term.

In the larger context, the popularity of ice hockey in Germany is shown, which is underpinned by the 2025 Ice Hockey World Cup in Denmark and Sweden. This took place from May 9th to 25th, with an exciting final between the USA and Switzerland, which the USA won. According to current statistics, the number of members in the German Ice Hockey Association (DEB) will have increased to around 25,900 in 2024, which illustrates the growing interest in the sport.

By signing young talents and strengthening youth work, the KAC is showing that it is ready to face the challenges of the coming seasons. The sporting ambitions should not only advance the club, but also the entire ice hockey location in Austria, while the aim is to improve one's own performance at international competitions.
