Neos Vienna presents the fresh team and new ideas for the future!

Wien, Österreich - On June 10, 2025, the constituent meeting of the Vienna municipal council and state parliament took place, in which the Neos Vienna presented their new team for the next five years. Selma Arapović was elected club chairwoman while Markus Ornig and Stefan Gara act as deputies. Philipp Blass was used as a club director. Neos was able to achieve 10 % of the votes in the Vienna election, which leads to the growth of the town hall club. Overall, Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling and six MPs from the previous legislative period are still represented in the local council and state parliament.

In addition, four new members strengthen the Neos Rathausklub: Jing Hu, Maria in the Maur-Koenne, Lukas Burian and Arabel Bernecker-Thiel. The thematic division in the government period provides, among other things, that Selma Arapović takes care of urban development and living, while Stefan Gara takes over the areas of digitization and climate protection. In addition, every new member has taken over special areas of responsibility that range from the promotion of health and sport to education to democracy and human rights.

new faces and responsibilities

jing HU, pharmacist and restaurateur, is the first neos candidate with a basic mandate in the Vienna municipal council. Maria in the Maur-Koenne, an experienced lawyer, has been politically active since 2018 and has expertise in family and inheritance law. Lukas Burian, Channel Manager in the digitization program of the ÖGK, is particularly committed to the rainbow community. Arabel Bernecker-Thiel, political scientist with a focus on migration policy, works for international organizations and thus brings an international perspective into local politics.

The new coalition of SPÖ and NEOS has 53 out of 100 mandates in the municipal council. As part of a press conference in the coat of arms of the Vienna City Hall, Mayor Michael Ludwig (SPÖ) and Vice Mayor Bettina Emmerling (NEOS) presented the new government program, which includes 191 pages and is entitled "Development Coalition". The aim of the program is to form a stable city government and to react to current challenges with a focus on economic impulses and social cohesion, as wien.gv.at

strategy and investments

to consolidate Vienna as a "economic engine in Austria", planned investments in digitization, technology and artificial intelligence are planned. The expansion of the Life Science Center plays an important role, as is the application for a large data center. In addition, the city plans to make an effort to be carried out by the Eurovision Song Contest 2026.

Another central goal of the coalition is the climate neutrality by 2040. For this purpose, extensive measures are planned, including the expansion of photovoltaics, geothermal energy and the creation of 400,000 new square meters of parking and green areas. In addition, the continuation of the expansion of the urban cycle paths, especially on the Ringstrasse, is being launched.

A "Viennese integration code" is also developed to define rules and values for living together. Kinder mit erhöhtem Sprachförderbedarf sollen künftig 30 Stunden pro Woche den Kindergarten besuchen, wobei der Quereinstieg für Fachkräfte in der Elementarpädagogik erleichtert werden soll. These measures and regulations aim to further promote social cohesion in the city and to reduce bottlenecks in the care by additional support forces.

The new team of NEOS and the comprehensive measures that are recorded in the "upswing coalition" show the endeavor not only to make Vienna modern and future -oriented, but also to make living worth living for all citizens, as well as in the detailed presentation of the program by press.wien.gv.at . The government monitor is also introduced to check the implementation of the projects regularly.
