A 55-year-old man caused a stir on the Brenner motorway on Sunday evening when he was driving the wrong way. After his credit card no longer had any money on it, he turned around at the Schönberg main toll booth and drove in the opposite direction to the Stubai exit. ASFINAG spokesman Alexander Holzedl explained that in such cases you should remain calm and under no circumstances should you try to drive backwards. But the situation can be solved quite easily: a button can be pressed at the toll booths at any time to establish direct contact with the toll supervisor. Holzedl emphasized that the barriers will be opened even if you have no money or a working credit card - the amount can be paid within 48 hours.
