Marco Frigo sensationally wins the Tour of the Alps in San Candido!

On April 23, 2025, Marco Frigo from Bassano del Grappa secured an impressive victory in the third stage of the Tour of the Alps. The stage ran over 145.5 kilometers from Vipiteno to Innichen. Frigo broke away as part of a breakaway group from kilometer 18 onwards and showed his skills in a spectacular solo attack on the last ramps to Untermoi. Despite the pressure from the peloton, he managed to maintain his lead and finished 19 seconds ahead of the chasing group. This marks Frigo's first win in his professional career, which represents a special milestone for him. Among the favorites, the overall ranking remained exciting as the positions remained almost unchanged.

Frigo was followed in the sprint by his pursuer Jay Hindley, who prevailed ahead of Derek Gee, Giulio Ciccone and Max Poole. Michael Storer finished eighth and defended his green jersey. Felix Gall reached 16th place and remains in the overall leader's group, but 45 seconds behind Storer. Dolomite town reports that this is important information for the further course of the tour, especially before the crucial East Tyrol stages.

Gall and the overall ranking

At the end of the Tour of the Alps, which recently concluded, there were exciting results. Simon Carr from EF-Education won the 5th and final stage to Cavalese, while Tao Geoghegan Hart (Ineos) secured the overall victory with a start-to-finish victory. Gall was able to place himself as the best Austrian on the last stage after crossing the finish line at the same time as the overall winner (+4:28). Thanks to Alexander Vlasow's non-appearance, Gall improved to ninth place in the overall standings, 1:20 behind Geoghegan Hart.

After crossing the finish line, Gall spoke about the challenges of the last five days. He also spoke about the impact of a crash on the second stage. After the grueling race, he plans to play golf for two days before preparing for the Giro d’Italia. Laola1 offers further insights into Gall's preparations for the season.
