Crown Princess Amalia: Shock by manipulated Deepfake videos!
Amsterdam, Niederlande - On August 14, 2025, Crown Princess Amalia of the Netherlands (21) became the victim of shocking use of AI technology. Manipulated sex videos with their face were published on a Deepfake platform. This serious violation of your privacy is viewed from a much larger context, since more than 20 other affected people, including politicians and mayors, have also filed a complaint. The incidents are particularly explosive because they became known 1.5 years after similar revelations in March 2024. The Dutch legislator has reacted to such acts by the creation and spread of fake videos, with a possible prison sentence of up to two years for the perpetrators.
The public prosecutor has already started an investigation and focuses on a 73-year-old man from North Holland, who is considered a suspected main perpetrator. The platform on which the videos were published had reached an enormous number of users in the past few months: almost 650,000 registered users in the Netherlands and around 200,000 every month. This alarming situation illustrates the dangers associated with the development and abuse of technologies such as AI.
Amalia's personal challenges
Before this incident, Amalia had hidden in Madrid for a year after being received threats that were never named in detail. There were also fears regarding a possible kidnapping in these threats. She found support from King Felipe and Queen Letizia of Spain, which made it possible for her to continue her studies in a protected environment. Interestingly, Amalia's Bachelor thesis at the University of Amsterdam also deals with the legal aspects of AI and Deepfakes, which underlines the topicality of their research.
The ongoing discussion about the correct use of such technologies and their legal framework is all the more urgent through the recent developments. It remains to be seen which measures are taken to protect those affected and prevent such incidents in the future.
