Fight for the Dakota pipeline: judgment shocked environmentalists!

A recent court ruling has hit Greenpeace hard: the organization has to pay the pipeline company Energy Transfer Hundreds of million dollars. This was decided by a jury in North Dakota, who attributed the environmentalist to the environmentalists' responsibility against the protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline. This pipeline, which was put into operation in 2017, runs over 1900 kilometers from the oil fields North Dakotas to Illinois and was approved by US President Donald Trump. Greenpeace had always argued that the lawsuit was an attempt to silence critics of the oil industry, but the jury disagreed, as the Kleine Zeitung reported.

The jury attributed hundreds of millions of dollars, which represents a considerable setback for Greenpeace. The co -founder of Energy Transfer, Kelcy Warren, a supporter of Trump, had previously vehemently criticized the protests and demanded that the truth about his company come to light. At the court hearing, he made it clear: "We have to stand up for ourselves", which illustrates his proactive attitude towards the critics. The process itself took place in the Morton County Courthouse in Mandan, North Dakota, and lasted around two days, such as the New York Times reported.

The Dakota Access Pipeline leads through areas that are considered sacred by the standing rock Sioux and other indigenous tribal members. They had sued in court to take action against the pipeline and the risk of contamination of their drinking water sources. Despite this significant legal dispute, the judgment against Greenpeace has now been made, which further heated up the tensions between environmentalists and the oil industry.
