Fight against construction rage: dangerous buildings on the edge of the volcano!
In the past two weeks, the Greek island of Santorin has struggled with a terrifying series of explosions-a total of over 14,000 earthquakes were registered, such as Kleine Zeitung reported. These seismic activities have triggered concern because they can inevitably lead to landing, which endanger the already controversial construction on the island. According to experts, many of the buildings, especially along the Caldera, are not properly secured because required permits are missing and there is no coordinated urban planning.
The fact that around 20 % of the buildings are classified as illegally is particularly alarming. After the occurrence of such intensive seismic activity, the authorities have asked the population to empty the pools of their buildings in order to reduce the additional weight and to minimize possible damage in the event of vibrations. Several controls have led to 80 violations found, as AOL emphasized in a current report. The testing of these construction projects on the rim shows worrying defects, whereby architect Vassilis Hatzipetros indicates the urgent need for geotechnical studies.
urgency of the construction controls
In view of the dangers from the frequent earthquakes, the authorities have suspended the permits for new buildings and pool systems. Numerous investigations have been initiated in the past three years, and there are indications of possible corruption that could result in the inadequate controls. This worrying situation forces both residents and tourists to see the infrastructure on Santorin in a new light, while the discussion about the safety of the buildings and the illegal construction practice is getting louder.Details | |
