Together strong: Villach sets signs against partner violence in the stop run
The commitment to a non -violent life for women and girls was particularly clearly visible in Villach on Monday. On the occasion of the international girls' day, which is celebrated annually on October 11, the "stop run" was organized. This run is part of the overarching project "Stop - districts without a partner", which aims to address and combat domestic violence in society. At this event, the women's state councilor Sara Schaar was also on site, who underlined the importance of the initiative.
The "Stop" project is implemented at several locations in Carinthia, especially in Villach, Klagenfurt-Viktring and Völkermarkt, whereby the Equaliz association and the WIFF act as a leading facilities.
What is the intention behind "Stop"?
"Stop" is more than just a project; It is a nationwide initiative that aims to make domestic violence, especially the violence of partners, visible as a serious social problem. A central element of the program is the active participation of the neighborhood. This is intended to create awareness and provide support options for those affected. Schaar emphasizes that violence in the partnership is not a private problem, but belongs to the public. It is of crucial importance to break the silence and encourage those affected to seek help.
"The 'stop run' in Villach is an important sign that should bring everyone together and mobilize the community. We can all show civil courage by being attentive and supporting each other," explains the Women's State Councilor. Such events raise awareness and the subject of partner violence is brought out of the taboo zone.
variety of initiatives
The yesterday's run is only one of many actions that are carried out as part of the “Stop” project in Carinthia. In the media library in Völkermarkt, for example, there was a hiking exhibition on civil courage in partner violence and domestic violence, which is reminiscent of the 35th anniversary of the WIFF women's and family counseling center. In addition, the responsible workshops in schools offer to sensitize young people to the topic and to promote understanding of a non -violent life.
"All of these measures are aimed at strengthening the civil courage among the population and thus increasing security," Schaar noted. The success of these initiatives has also led to social minister Johannes Rauch recently ensured the continuation and expansion of the “Stop” project at the national level. 3.25 million euros will be available for this in the next two years to continue this important work.
However,Schaar also appeals to the new federal government to give protection against violence more priority. "A national action plan is necessary to close existing gaps. In particular, prevention work, especially in terms of men and boys, has to be intensified," said the State Councilor. To achieve this, additional funds at the federal level are essential.
