Villach draws warmth of wastewater: new step towards climate protection

The city of Villach has set itself the goal of further expanding its environmentally friendly energy supply and relies on innovative solutions. Villach shows what sustainable energy generation can look like with an impressive network of 130 kilometers of district heating, only 20 percent of the gas. Around 80 percent of these heating agents are generated by biomass and waste heat, which makes the city record in international comparison.

A new and exciting project is now in the starting blocks: Kelag Energie & Warmth (KEW) is planning to use the heat of the sewage of the sewage treatment plant in St. Agathen. The reason for this initiative is the city's pioneering performance and the possibility of expanding the heat capacity for the approximately 250,000 citizens: inside. Another aspect of this development is the continuous improvement of the sewage treatment plant as an energy -efficient facility. The company already uses a combined heat and power plant and 600 square meters of photovoltaic systems to cover your own energy requirements. With the possible integration of the waste heat, even a fully extensive energy pregnancy is to be sought.
