Serious accident on B83 in Villach: driver trapped and injured

Yesterday evening a serious traffic accident occurred on the B83 in Villach, which put the approximately 40 members of the Judendorf volunteer fire department and the Villach main fire station on alert. The alarm was triggered around 10 p.m. and both fire departments immediately made their way to the scene of the accident, which was near the Warmbad Villach motorway exit.

The vehicle, which apparently collided with a concrete barrier, then rolled over and came to rest on its driver's side in the middle of the road. The firefighters who responded initially found the driver unresponsive. Chief fire inspector Harald Geissler explained that the driver was probably injured and trapped in the vehicle.

Rescue the driver

To help the injured person, the car was secured to prevent it from falling over further. The fire department removed the windshield so that the emergency doctor could access the driver. In this critical situation, the Judendorf Volunteer Fire Department ensured that the accident site was secured and provided the necessary fire protection and lighting in the area. After the windshield was removed, the roof of the vehicle also had to be removed in order to free the driver from the car with a “spineboard”.

The driver was then taken to the LKH Villach, where he was given comprehensive treatment. Unfortunately, the vehicle was totaled, underlining the seriousness of the accident.

Eviction and security

On the instructions of the police, the accident car was recovered using a crane truck from the main fire station and parked in a nearby parking lot. The private towing company then took over the transport of the car. The fire department, together with seven vehicles and around 40 emergency services, carried out important follow-up work. This included oil binding work and cleaning the roadway in order to reopen the road to traffic as quickly as possible.
