Quick action by the fire brigade prevented the fire from spreading in Bremerhaven
In Bremerhaven, shortly before midnight on November 16, 2024, the integrated regional control center Unterweser-Elbe alerted the fire department to a dramatic building fire on Stresemannstrasse. When the fire brigade arrived, the situation was alarming: high flames were coming from a single-family home, while thick smoke was coming from both the ground floor and the first floor. Because the buildings are so close together, there was a risk that the fire could spread to neighboring houses.
Immediately when extinguishing work began, it was not clear whether there were still people in the burning house. The operations manager therefore immediately sent emergency services into the building, while at the same time massive extinguishing measures were initiated to protect the neighboring residential buildings. The Bremerhaven police were also called to evacuate the neighbors. The affected residents found temporary shelter in a BremerhavenBus bus and were looked after by the fire department's rescue service.
Rescue operations and firefighting
The extinguishing measures proved to be challenging as fighting the fire in the building was extremely risky due to the rapid spread of the fire. Fortunately, the emergency services were able to report promptly that all residents had left the house independently. Fortunately, they got to safety in time and found refuge with neighbors.
The all-clear was finally given around four in the morning: “Fire out” was reported, and thanks to the rapid and professional response of the fire department, the adjacent buildings remained largely undamaged. Various units were involved in the operations, including the Lehe volunteer fire department, the drone unit of the Wulsdorf volunteer fire department and the Bremerhaven professional fire department. After the fire was extinguished, the Bremerhaven police took over the scene to investigate the cause of the fire. More details about this incident can be found in a report on www.fireworld.at.
