Klagenfurt celebrates cultural diversity: The long night of museums enthusiastic

The ORF long night of museums has caused a sensation again in Carinthia. This year, numerous people visited the diverse cultural offers in the region, which gave the organizers and the participating institutions great joy. The event took place on the premises of 52 museums and galleries in Klagenfurt, plus six in Villach and 18 in the surrounding regions, which is a remarkable number.

Wolfgang Muchitsch, director of the Carinthia. Museum, emphasizes that such events often help overcome the threshold to encourage people to visit a museum. Many do not know which behaviors are appropriate or how they should move in these rooms. "You may be less shy in a large group," says Muchitsch, who underlines the importance of this night for the education and access to art and culture.

It was particularly noteworthy that the long night of museums was not only very well received by adults, but also in children. Jürgen Gachowetz, organizer of the event, found that many museums and galleries offered special programs for the youngest visitors who were lively. "Of course, all major institutions offer additional programs that only exist that evening," he said.

The relevance of the event was also emphasized by ORF general director Roland Weißmann, who mentioned how important art and culture are for society. "I am particularly pleased that numerous people, both young and older visitors, took this unique opportunity," he said. He sees the event confirmation of the contribution of the ORF as a cultural mediator.

The event also has a social aspect because it promotes community thinking and brings people together who may have little to do with cultural issues in everyday life. "We would also like to address people with the initiative who hardly deal with culture in everyday life," added ORF state director Karin Bernhard.

At the official opening of the long night of the museums, LH Peter Kaiser (SPÖ) also expressed his enthusiasm and emphasized that the cultural evening enables numerous new impressions. Mayor Christian Scheider (Team Kärnten) added that the event was important to address all generations and present new offers every year.

The interest in the ORF Langen Night of the Museums is not only shown in the number of visitors, but also in the variety of cultural programs and broad participation in this important event, which has been in existence for over 20 years.
