Held from Villach: Syrian stops knife attackers, but now the judiciary threatens!

in Villach, the judiciary is now aimed at the brave Alaaeddin Alhalabi (42), who stopped a knife attacker with his car and thus possibly saved the life of passers -by. Like Exxpress.at , the dramatic situation began when the 23-year-old Ahmad G. started with a knife on passers-by. In the middle of this killing spree, Alhalabi reacted at lightning speed: "I was just about to pick up an order when I saw the blood and the injured," he explained and drove down the attacker who was on the way to the city center. There were also children on the street - a situation that he could not accept.

Although Alhalabi is celebrated as a hero, the judiciary sees the matter more complicated. According to the Klagenfurt public prosecutor, he is investigated for assault, as this is an official offense and the authority obliges to check the case. However, an indictment is unlikely. According to a spokesman, the case could amount to "emergency aid", a law that applies in such emergency situations to enable justified actions for the defense against acute dangers. The reactions to the situation were mixed, some passers -by even thought that Alhalabi was the attacker when they hit his car, which illustrates the confusion and shock on site.

the tragedy and the consequences

The city of Villach is in shock in the result of the attack, in which a 14-year-old guy came to death tragically. Alhalabi himself also bears a heavy load: "If I had been faster, the 14-year-old might not be dead," he reflects after the incident. Despite his heroic deed, he feels guilty. He appeals to the population to distinguish between the deeds of an individual and the majority of the peaceful Syrians who live in Villach. "I want to live here in peace," emphasizes Alhalabi, who has been integrated for years, and hopes that others will not impose the prejudice of him and his compatriots that could fuel the events
