Drama for Krampus runs: Spectators attack actors, child saved
The traditional cramps runs in Carinthia, which attract numerous spectators in the run -up to Christmas, have recently been overshadowed by worrying incidents. At one of these events, in Hohenthurn in the Villach-Land district, a 15-year-old Krampus actor was victim of an attack. The incident occurred shortly before 7:00 p.m. when an unknown viewer tried to tear the mask off the actor from the head. The youth was injured in this attack and had to be taken to the Villach State Hospital. The police immediately initiated a search after the attacker, but so far the search has been unsuccessful. Investigations are continued by the Arnoldstein police inspection.
Another incident that took place during the Krampus run in Eberndorf (Völkermarkt district) concerned a child who came into a critical situation when trying to eat a sugar. At around 5:30 p.m., officials from the on -call unit (be) heard a call for help from a concerned mother. Her son had choked on the sugar and threatened to suffocate. A policeman reacted quickly and applied the so-called secret handle, a technique for the removal of shortness of breath in the event of suffocation fits. Fortunately, the child could spit the sugar and breathe again. Although an emergency doctor was consulted, the fast help of the police officers was so effective that further medical treatment was not necessary.
The two incidents throw a shadow on the festive atmosphere of the Krampus runs and show the importance of security and fast action in hectic situations. In the region, the necessary measures will continue to be discussed to avoid such incidents in the future, while the tradition of walking on Krampus continues to live.
