Together for secure ways of school: Report danger spots until October 31

traffic safety in Carinthia takes on new priorities. In order to create more secure school routes for children, the traffic commission calls on all citizens to record dangerous bodies on the school routes in an online map by October 31. This is done via the platform www.vcoe.at. "More traffic safety pays off. This not only saves life, but also lowers health and economic costs," explains Katharina Jaschinsky from VCÖ.

According to a current analysis of the VCÖ, which is based on data from statistics Austria, the economic costs were around 620 million euros due to traffic accidents in Carinthia last year. These costs are composed of various factors: treatment costs, operational costs, damage to property and the economic losses due to incapacity to work are only a few of the aspects that are taken into account here.

The accident situation in Carinthia shows that most accidents, both in absolute numbers and in relation to the population, were registered in the Hermagor district. Nevertheless, it is remarkable that the costs in the districts of Klagenfurt Land, Wolfsberg and in the state capital of Klagenfurt have dropped.

Central aspects for traffic safety are both the speed of traffic and the attention of road users. Inattentiveness and inappropriate speeds are among the most common causes of serious accidents. The VCÖ also emphasizes the importance of a well -developed public transport network, since security in public transport is significantly higher than in the car. Especially for young people, night buses are crucial - they could save lives and reduce the fears of their parents.

The VCÖ is committed to traffic planning that properly takes into account the weakest. "In order to increase traffic safety, planning should be oriented towards the needs of children, the elderly and people with mobility restrictions," emphasizes by Jaschinsky. It is also important to enable child -friendly ways, even where there are no protection routes.

In recent years, increased traffic controls, which also affect compliance with the mobile phone ban at the wheel, have made a major contribution to security. So far, over 3,000 citizens have now reported problem areas that urgently need to be revised.

The current VCÖ statistics on economic accident costs offer a look at the changes in the districts: in the Hermagor district, the costs totaled 27.7 million euros, while the district of Klagenfurt Land has 51.8 million euros-a decrease of EUR 10.6 million. The city of Klagenfurt was also able to reduce its accident costs and concluded with 79.6 million euros.

The VCÖ's initiative for increasing traffic safety is supported by various actors. In this sense, there is a lot to do in Carinthia to create child -friendly and safe traffic routes.
