Traffic region of Carinthia: 22 deaths and ways to improve security
In Carinthia, traffic safety is still a explosive topic, especially in view of the current statistics on traffic accidents. An 89-year-old pedestrian died recently after being hit by a car in the Völkermarkt district. This is part of a worrying balance that includes a total of 22 traffic fatalities between January 1 and October 30 of this year. Compared to the previous year, there are five fewer, but still a death more than the entire deficit in 2022. In the past 25 years, 1174 people have lost their lives in traffic accidents in Carinthia, which is more than the population of Weißensee. The dangerous road traffic
The numbers from the current year show which groups are particularly affected. The most common victims are motorcyclists followed by car inmates and e-bike drivers. With eight, six and four deaths, these groups have a high victim quota. Even if the total number of fatal accidents has dropped this year, the number of seriously injured people also remains worrying. Many people carry lifelong consequences of traffic accidents.
"In order to contain serious accidents, increased traffic safety measures must be taken," said Katharina Jaschinsky from the Verkehrsclub Austria (VCÖ). She emphasizes that such measures are particularly important that prevent accidents preventively in order to avoid suffering and save lives. A central aspect of traffic safety is the speed because it has a significant impact on the number and severity of accidents.
On particularly dangerous open -air roads, a speed limit of 80 km/h should apply, for example, while a restriction of 30 km/h is advisable in the closed area in order to protect children and older people in particular. Another topic that comes up with attention is the distraction through mobile phone use at the wheel. The VCÖ demands that this will also be included in the pre -notification system in Austria.
success through measures
The positive developments in traffic safety cannot be dismissed, especially if you look at the numbers of the past 25 years. In 1999, 75 traffic fatalities in Carinthia were counted, while last year the number could be reduced to only 21. This represents a remarkable reduction of 72 percent and shows that the introduction of traffic safety measures has an effect.
These developments are clear proof that targeted measures not only reduce accidents, but also to save human life. Nevertheless, there is still a lot to do to ensure security on the streets and to further reduce the number of badness serious injuries and deaths.
