Austria's marathon heroes: Double victory at the Graz Marathon!
In the recent Graz Marathon, the local athletes delivered impressive performances and celebrated sensational successes. Lukas Hollaus was the first to cross the finish line of the main marathon and won the race in a time of 2:17:38 hours. In doing so, he prevailed against strong international competition and represented a significant milestone, as these efforts marked the first Austrian victory at the Graz Marathon in many years.
Karin Rosenberger also impressed among the women, taking first place with a time of 2:53:27 hours. Behind her was her compatriot Eva Berger with 2:56:20 and Jana Backes, who finished the race in 2:57:14 hours. These outstanding results demonstrated the high performance of the Austrian runners.
Successes in the half marathon
The local athletes shone not only in the marathon, but also in the half marathon. Markus Hartinger won with a time of 1:07:05 hours. Barbara Bischof was the fastest among the women and finished her race in 1:21:41 hours.
In the quarter marathon, Florian Lienhart secured first place with a time of 33:25 minutes, while the women's category was led by Ute Pirchan in 37:19 minutes. In the relay competition, the RunningGraz Men's 1 relay team triumphed and achieved a time of 2:34:06 hours.
Special moments
A notable highlight was the participation of the oldest participant, 92-year-old Julius Holzner, who completed the half marathon in 3:29:07 hours. The Graz Marathon took the opportunity to show solidarity and handed over a check for 5,000 euros to Michi Buchleitner, whose event had to be canceled due to unfavorable weather conditions.
Michi Kummerer, the organizer of the Graz Marathon, spoke enthusiastically about the event: "We experienced an incredible running festival with over 11,657 participants, a new record. The support of our partners and spectators made the event unforgettable." The next Graz Marathon will take place from October 10th to 12th, 2025 and promises to be another great spectacle.
