insights and discussions

At the beginning of the congress, Univ.-Prof. Mag. GDr. Matthias Karmasin is the challenges that the minority reporting faces in times of social media, especially in terms of polarization and manipulation. There were also two panels that dealt with the theme of the ethnic group media. In these informative meetings, among others, Beatrice Hungarian, the editor -in -chief of the "Hermannstädter Zeitung", as well as numerous experts about the current status and future of the minority press

The second panel offered further interesting insights. It was discussed how society perceives reporting on minorities and what role media play. Topics such as "Courage to multilingual, critical journalism" were extensively treated and met with great interest. Various speakers were represented here from Romania and Slovenia who brought their experiences and perspectives.

A special highlight was a panel discussion under the motto "Truth or Fake - The Responsibility of the Media", in which top -class media representatives and politicians discussed the responsibility of the media in today's information age. This discussion took place in the ORF Theater and was moderated by Andreas Scherwitzl.

In addition, the publication "Carinthia Documentation 2024", which contains important contributions to the topics of dialogue and culture, was also presented as part of the congress. This collection not only illuminates the challenges, but also the opportunities for the minorities in Europe. The contributions from Romanian Germans provide valuable insights into the expectations of the young generation and the cultural identity that is to be funded in the coming years.

The delegation from the Banater Bergland, consisting of leading members of the DFBB, also had the opportunity to interact with representatives of other German minority associations and to develop common perspectives for the future. Particular importance was placed on the networking and exchange of ideas in order to keep the culture and language of minorities in Europe alive.

A reception in the town hall of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, organized by Vice Mayor Dr. Alexander Kastner, was another important aspect of the congress. Here the participants were able to build networks in a friendly atmosphere and have informal conversations.

Overall, it was to be said that the 2024 ethnic group was perceived as extremely instructive and stimulating. Many of the issues discussed were not only significant for the delegations present, but also for the entire society, which must increasingly deal with the questions of truth and responsibility in media reporting.
