Carinthian tooth in need: Free dental treatment for people in need in Ebenthal
Eberhard Kowatsch and Irene Kowatsch, dentists in Ebenthal and heads of the Heydents dental clinic in Graz, have launched the “Carinthian Tooth in Need” project together with the relief organization, Caritas Kärnten and the Kleine Zeitung. The project aims to provide free dental treatment to people in need, as many people, especially those aged 20 to 30, suffer from poor dental health. Such problems often result in those affected having difficulty finding work because they cannot afford dental treatment.
The Austrian health system does not adequately finance dental treatment, and preventive measures in particular are neglected. In contrast, Scandinavian countries such as Norway, Sweden and Denmark encourage tooth preservation treatments, making dental problems less common.
Bad teeth can not only cause health problems, but can also affect self-esteem and promote social isolation. In addition, dental problems can lead to serious illnesses such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and respiratory problems.
Through the “Carinthian Tooth in Need” project, the dentists and their partners hope that more people will have access to urgently needed dental treatment and thereby improve their quality of life. Medentical Care GmbH and other companies provide materials for the treatments free of charge to support the project.
