Hermagor in the film: The Walker brings Hollywood flair to the Gailtal
In the small town of Hermagor, an exciting cinematic production was created this autumn, which is unusual for the region. The science fiction film "The Walker" was shot in late summer and in the first weekends in the picturesque Gailtal. It all started with a casting that took place on August 31, 2024 in the former café "Hat off" on Radnigerstrasse. Despite the heat and the first skeptical audience, the film team was determined to implement their vision on site.
The shooting was directed by international filmmakers who were not deterred from the initial reluctance of the population. This persistence meant that "The Walker" could be completed in the Gailtal on time at the end of September. The film is a visual spectacle in black and white that does not contain a dialogue and yet conveys the tension of a thriller. He offers viewers the opportunity to dive deep into another world.
The action and cinematic technology
The story of "The Walker" deals with a journey from this side to the afterlife, while a deceased person reflects the experiences of their past. The impressive landscapes of our region, including the Poludnig, the Egger Alm and the Weißensee, play a central role in this visual narrative. Unique settings show majestic wide wall images that are designed without a single gray tone. Such technically complex film techniques promise an extraordinary cinema experience that will remember the audience.
From January 2025, the film will go on a festival tour, which begins with a first appearance in Valparaíso, Chile. Further screenings are planned in Saarbrücken, Germany, as well as at New York University and Los Angeles. Despite the international format, however, it remains open whether "The Walker" will also be seen in Austria, since such films are often not shown in local cinemas.
The production of "The Walker" is a joint project that includes the name such as Angelika Rocil and the production company West film from Los Angeles, the Filmakers Company from Paris and Gailtalfilm from Hermagor. The film, with a runtime of 115 minutes, strives to inspire both aesthetically and narratively - one aspect that spectators find in big cities.
remains to be seen how the response to this innovative film will be, but the fact that Hermagor is anchored in such a unique way in the international film business could open a new chapter in the region's history. The autumn filming and the creative vision of filmmakers show that Hermagor is more than just a small city - it is a pulsating place of cultural development.
