On the night of last Sunday there was a brutal argument between a 50-year-old woman and her 49-year-old ex-boyfriend in an apartment in Ferlach. The argument escalated when the man not only made verbal threats, but also threatened the woman with a knife and suggested cutting movements on her neck. This reported ORF Carinthia. After briefly freeing herself from her ex-partner's clutches, the woman left the apartment in panic and got into her car to drive to the police. However, the man didn't give up and chased her in her own car.
The dramatic events began when the woman honked to draw attention to her desperate situation so that she could reach the police station in Ferlach in time. But the 49-year-old came back into the apartment, choked the woman and ultimately inflicted serious injuries on her chest with a knife. How My district reported that the man was arrested shortly afterwards in Klagenfurt after he fled while intoxicated. Forged documents were found on him, while a breathalyzer test carried out came back positive.
Prolonged harassment
During the investigation, the police discovered that the 49-year-old had been unlawfully pursuing his ex-partner since January 2024 and severely affecting her way of life. The Klagenfurt public prosecutor's office ordered the man to be committed to a prison, and the incident, in which the woman was injured to an unspecified degree and had to be treated at the Klagenfurt Clinic, raises serious questions about the safety of sexual harassment and domestic violence.
