A serious traffic accident occurred on Wednesday evening in the Völkermarkt district, Carinthia. Around 6:25 p.m., a 60-year-old driver from B81 Bleiburger Straße wanted to turn left onto B82 Seebergstrasse when he overlooked a 15-year-old moped driver. The collision led to serious injuries to the moped driver, which was immediately flown to the Klagenfurt accident hospital with a rescue helicopter. The 60-year-old driver was tested positively in an alcohol test, which led to the immediate deprivation of his driver's license at the accident site, reports Kosmo .
This tragic incident is skilllessly on the worrying development of alcohol accidents in road traffic. According to a current traffic accident statistics, around 2,300 alcohol accidents in Austria occur annually. These accidents lead to more than 2,900 injured and 31 killed per year. The statistics show that an average of 69% car-steering and 24% bike river are involved in alcohol accidents. In 469 alcohol accidents in the first quarter of 2022, 643 injuries and 7 deaths occurred, which corresponds to around every eleventh roadworthy. Under these circumstances, the KFV experts emphasize the personal responsibility of the drivers and advise against participating in road traffic in the alcoholic state. They also recommend planning a safe way in advance to prevent such tragic accidents.
