International fire brigade competitions 2026: Take over Austria and the Czech Republic!
Eisenstadt, Österreich - The International Fire Brigade Association CTIF has announced the initial countries for the competitions in 2026. Due to the cancellation of the competitions in Berlin as a result of financial difficulties, which were communicated in a letter from the President of the German National CTIF Committee, new organizers were required. The competitions in Berlin were supposed to include the 18th international fire brigade competitions and the 25th International Youth Fire Brigade encounter and had targeted an expected number of participants of around 3,500 from over 30 countries. More than 10,000 spectators were planned.
The decision to cancel was made in Germany in view of the current political, social and economic challenges. These include elections to the German Bundestag as well as for various state parliaments and the associated uncertainties. There are also national and international threats as well as the effects of climate change. The CTIF Executive Committee is now working on a solution and will inform about new plans to enable the event at a later date.
New venues: Austria and Czech Republic
For the upcoming competitions, the Czech Republic and Austria were selected. The Czech Republic will host the international youth fire brigade encounter and the international sports competitions, while Austria will take over the international traditional fire brigade competition. At the initiative of the Burgenland State Fire Brigade Association, Eisenstadt has agreed to carry out the event that will take place in Austria from July 23 to 26, 2026.
The international youth fire brigade encounter and the sports competitions are planned for the period from July 13th to 19th, 2026 in Šumperk, Czech Republic. This division of the event into two countries is a premiere and should contribute to strengthening the international fire brigade community.
The Cifif competitions only take place every four years worldwide. This makes the cancellation of the Berlin event particularly painful for everyone involved and fire brigade enthusiasts. The last delegate assembly of the CTIF had granted Germany on June 20, 2024 in Oslo. The estimated total costs for the event in Berlin were at least 3 million euros and would have been even higher due to price increases.
For more information about the CTIF competitions and the planned innovations, interested parties can visit the official websites. The international fire brigade community is optimistic about the events in Austria and the Czech Republic, while the CTIF tries to overcome the challenges in Germany. Further information about CTIF competitions can also be called up on the CIFF website, which is currently also translated into other languages to address a broader readership.
The cancellation of the international fire brigade competitions in Berlin is a herber setback, but the initiative in Austria and the Czech Republic offers new opportunities for successful implementation in the future.
