The explosive situation between Israel and Hamas reaches a new dramatic highlight: Tal Shoham and the long -term geisel Avera Mengistu have recently returned to Israel after they were held in the Gaza Strip for over 16 months. The return was confirmed by the Israeli military, which also announced that the two were initially examined medically before they can see their families again. A total of six Israeli hostages are to be released on one Saturday, while in return, 602 Palestinians from Israeli detention centers are released, including 50 prison terms, such as t-online.de
The already initiated release of Shoham was felt as a relief for Austria after the Foreign Ministry announced intensive diplomatic support. In the meantime, the efforts to release further hostages are in progress and that Hamas plans to hand over further hostages in the coming days. The exchange of hostages and prisoners is part of a major agreement that was initiated last January and aimed at defusing the tensions between the parties to the conflict.
