Woman crashes 40 meters when collecting berry in St. Gallenkirch!

On July 22, 2025, a serious accident occurred in St. Gallenkirch during the berry and mushroom search by a 60-year-old woman. The incident took place around 6 p.m. in the Montiel/Hüttnertobel area when the woman plunged into a ditch while looking for the autumn delicacies.

The woman suffered serious leg injuries from the fall and was dependent on help. Fortunately, she was able to notify her husband via her mobile phone and give her calls to help. He immediately went in search of his wife and was able to localize her thanks to her calls.

use of the rescue workers

The husband immediately informed the rescue workers who were quickly on site with a team of the St. Gallenkirch mountain rescue team. A total of ten emergency services were involved in the salvage. To recover the seriously injured woman, a rope rescue was used by a rescue helicopter in which a 80 meter long rope was used.

The salvage was successful and the injured woman was flown to the hospital with the rescue helicopter. This is not the first serious incident in the mountains in the past few weeks. On July 19, 2025, for example, 15 climbers were saved at the Zugspitze after a thunderstorm had moved across the region, and on July 18, 2025, missing alpinists were found dead at Montblanc.

The mountains always cover a certain risk, especially during the summer months when many people are on the ways. Tragic accidents, including a fatal fall from a climbing route or dangerous weather conditions, have repeatedly led to alarms from the rescue workers in recent weeks.

In view of these incidents, it is important to prepare well and always be careful in the mountains. The events show how quickly a relaxed leisure activity can turn into a serious emergency.
