Knittelfeld fire brigade: Record year with 968 missions and new trailer!
Knittelfeld (STMK) - On December 2nd, 2024, an important handover for the local fire departments took place at a small celebration. The Knittelfeld area fire brigade association is now providing the fire departments of Bischoffeld and the supply group of Feistritz and St. Marein with a new tandem trailer fireworld.at reported. In the future, this trailer will be used in major incidents and disasters in order to more efficiently handle the necessary logistical requirements, in particular leadership support and supplies in the event of an emergency. State fire brigade councilor Erwin Grangl emphasized the importance of this support for the emergency services in view of the increasing extreme weather events, which have posed challenges in recent years due to frequent disaster situations.
In a review of 2023, Grangl also presented the impressive operational record of the fire service statistics. The firefighters of the Knittelfeld fire department went out on an average of four occasions per day, a remarkable figure. In total there were 356 fire operations and 968 technical operations, an increase of 244 operations compared to the previous year. The total hours worked added up to 185,372, which, with a fictitious hourly wage of 30 euros, amounts to a value of over five million euros meinkreis.at reported. The outstanding challenges included operations as a result of storm damage, particularly the hailstorm in August, which took its toll on firefighters over several days.
In view of the fire brigade's ever-growing range of operations, modern technology was also used. In October, a drone was welcomed that will support the emergency services in future operations. Finally, numerous fire brigade members were deservedly honored, including David Stürzl, who was promoted to chief fire inspector, as well as the awarding of various crosses of merit to outstanding members of the fire brigade, which recognized the tireless commitment and dedication of the firefighters.
